In today’s game, Edwin Diaz brought the victory to the New York Mets against the Philadelphia Phillies by winning 3-0.
Tylor Megill along with the other 4 relievers pitched a total of 159 pitches
The starting pitcher was relieved after throwing 88 pitches, then Drew Smith, followed by Joely Rodriguez, Seth Lugo and finally Edwin Diaz continued making history by having the second no-hitter in the team’s history.
The crowd was fired up
The 32,416 attendees heard the roaring “Let’s go, Mets” chant in unison to help Diaz close the game and striking out J.T. Realmuto.
“Team game,” Megill commented.
“I’m ecstatic. It’s crazy,” he continued. “First one I’ve been part of.”
The first No-Hitter was a decade ago
Johan Santana was the last (and only) pitcher who had the same milestone on June 1st, 2012 in an outstanding 8-0 score against the St. Louis Cardinals.
During tonight’s game, Jeff McNeil had a single in the fifth inning pushing two runs, then came Pete Alonso with a solo home run in the sixth episode
It was a team game
One of the highlights of the game was by New York’s Brandon Nimmo
The centerfielder made a terrific dive to catch Jean Segura’s liner which was about to hit the field, Megill was relieved.
”It looked close,” Megill commented
Megill ran into trouble at the beginning of the game during the initial innings, his throws lacked velocity and it was visible that it was difficult for him to strike out the batters, however, he managed to command the scoreboard.
He walked 3 batters
The seasoned pitcher managed to walk a batter in the second episode, and two more in the fifth when Buck Showalter decided to relieve him with Smith who took care and struck out four batters.
